Anxiety is a normal reaction to a stressful event such as speaking in public or a first date.
Anxiety disorders occur when worries, fears, or anxiety attacks seem overwhelming and are preventing you from living your usual lifestyle. Symptoms of anxiety disorders last at least 6 months and can get worse if they are not treated.
Many anxiety treatments and self-help strategies can help you reduce your anxiety symptoms.
Anxiolytics (also called antipanic or antianxiety) are medications that inhibit anxiety. Anxiolytics have been shown to be useful in the treatment of anxiety disorders.
